Hello there!
I'm here today to make an announcement that's around 12 years in the making, assuming I'm remembering right, that this all started in 2011.
I have finally managed to sit my lazy ass down and begin writing my series!
I currently have nearly five chapters done in rough draft form, and have been sharing them with my older brother, and with the kind and awesome people on a certain Discord server (you know who you are!), while I'm also reaching out to some other family members and friends to see if they can provide feedback as well.
Once the drafts have been properly refined, I plan on posting the chapters here and maybe a few other places for public viewing.
The series is set in a science fiction/science fantasy setting, and is meant for more mature audiences, I'd say 17+. Overall, the series is named Nightmares, However the current part I'm writing is a prologue called The Precursor War, and while it was originally going to become a prequel saga later down the line, I feel like this is a more fleshed out portion of the series, and starting here I feel will make the other parts easier to write by providing a stable foundation for them to stand on.
I've realized that that's been the main struggle for me starting this series, being that I either didn't know where to start, or was trying to start somewhere I wanted to, but it clearly wasn't working no matter how hard I forced it.
And that's an important lesson, I suppose. You can't force good writing. if it isn't going to work, it isn't going to work. It's painful to realize at first, but considering the progress I've made in the past few days, staring on June 3rd, 2023 (I'm marking the date this time so I don't forget this milestone) making it through that pain is so worth it!
Another challenge was getting over the fear I had of actually starting to write this stuff down officially, and for the public eye to see, as crazy as that sounds. See, if I kept this story private, I could always change things I decided I didn't like later without consequence, but once I had it out in the open for all to see, that suddenly set it in stone in my mind. But of course, there's not really any point in having a story you'll never tell. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. Or, perhaps a better example, a ship is safe in it's harbor, but that's not what it's made for.
I think that covers everything for right now, I'll give more story specific details as I get closer to completing this first part of the prologue.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this, and have a nice day!
